A Middlesex County man was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old he met on social media, Somerset County officials Friday.
Lenic S. Galvan, 22, of Piscataway, who lived in Bound Brook at the time of the incident, was convicted in May of second-degree sexual assault of a victim under 13 and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
He was sentenced on Monday by Judge Jonathan W. Romankow in Somerset County Superior Court.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office started an investigation on July 25, 2021, after receiving information that a 12-year-old had been sexually assaulted by someone in Bound Brook she met on social media, authorities said.
During an interview with authorities, the victim told investigators the man arranged transportation for her to travel to his home and sexually assaulted her, authorities said.
Galvan was identified through an investigation and DNA analysis, investigators said. He was arrested one year later on July 26, 2022.
Galvan must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole. He also must register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.
An attorney for Galvan did not immediately return a request for comment Friday.
